About The Taxon
The Taxon is a blog by Gabrielle DeRose, a nature enthusiast who is dedicated to sharing the beauties and complexities of nature with her readers.

Gabrielle is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she studied English with the intention of pursuing a career in the field of writing and editing.

While Gabrielle has no formal background in biology or other scientific areas of study, she has the knowledge of her experience and research to guide her through sharing stories and information via The Taxon. Gabrielle considers herself a perpetual student, always learning and growing her knowledge of he natural world. As such, some information within The Taxon may be incomplete. Her goal is to explore the world around her and improve the accuracy of her findings. Please refer to the Resources page for further information on how Gabrielle works to accomplish this.

Gabrielle grew up and lives in southeast Michigan, but she also has knowledge of the wildlife present in the greater Chicagoland area. A majority of the species shared and explored through The Taxon are native to these areas. With that said, Gabrielle loves to travel, especially when hiking trips or nature trails are involved. Some blog posts from The Taxon may also include information from these excursions!

As Gabrielle is still learning, she encourages readers to do so alongside her, as well as to assist in her growth by offering constructive criticism or correcting inconsistencies. If you spot something not quite right, please reach out via the Contact page. Gabrielle hopes to create a community of curious nature lovers that can share their experiences and knowledge in a safe and welcoming space.
